TMJ Therapy

Definition:

TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) therapy treats disorders affecting the jaw joint, which connects the lower jaw to the skull.

TMJ disorders affect the temporomandibular joint, located on each side of your head in front of your ears. A soft cartilage disk acts as a cushion between the bones of the joint, so the joint can move smoothly. The temporomandibular (tem-puh-roe-man-DIB-u-lur) joint, also called TMJ, acts like a sliding hinge.

Causes of TMJ Disorders:

  • Jaw injury
  • Teeth grinding (Bruxism)
  • Arthritis in the jaw joint
  • Stress-related jaw clenching

Symptoms:

  • Jaw pain and stiffness
  • Clicking or popping sounds
  • Headaches and ear pain

Treatment:

  • Lifestyle Changes – Avoiding hard foods, stress management.
  • Dental Splints & Mouthguards – Prevent teeth grinding.
  • Physical Therapy & Exercises – Relieve jaw tension.

Conclusion:

TMJ therapy helps restore normal jaw function and relieves pain through non-invasive or surgical treatments.
